Church Basement Ladies Information
Church Basement Ladies is a musical comedy based on the book by Jessica Zuehlke and Jim Stowell with lyrics by Drew Jansen. Church Basement Ladies is the story about ladies that work in the church basement and cook meals for different functions in the church. The musical takes inspiration from the humorous book Growing Up Lutheran, by Suzann Nelson and Janet Letnes Martin.
The original cast of Church Basement Ladies included Mrs. Lars Snustad (Vivian) - Janet Paone; Mrs. Gilmer Gilmerson (Mavis) - Greta Grosch; Mrs. Elroy Engleson (Karin) - Dorian Chalmers; Signe Engleson (Karin's Daughter) - Ruthie Baker; Pastor E. L. Gunderson - Tim Drake; and Church Organist - Kyle Nelson. The national tour done by the show in 2009 featured William Christopher as the pastor.
The songs included in Act One are Closer to Heaven, The Pale Food Polka, Get Down to Business, Song For Willie, My Own Personal Island, Dead Spread, and Closer to Heaven (Reprise) company. A few songs included in Act Two are Get Down to Business, This is Most Certainly True, Sing a New Song, Mother of the Bride, and Sing a New Song (Reprise).
Church Basement Ladies is composed of seven sequels and prequels that are Church Basement Ladies 2: A Second Helping, Away in the Basement: A Church Basement Ladies Christmas, The Church Basement Ladies in "Rise Up, O Men," The Church Basement Ladies in "You Smell Barn," and The Church Basement Ladies in "Hark! The Basement Ladies Sing."
