Bonnie and Clyde Information
Bonnie & Clyde is a famous musical based on the book by Ivan Menchell, music by Frank Wildhorn, and lyrics by Don Black. The world premiere occurred in November 2009, in San Diego, CA. Bonnie & Clyde is based on the story of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, the two ill-fated lovers and outlaws. Their unique story has been infamous since the two achieved folklore status during the Great Depression. The music of the Bonnie & Clyde is described as a “non-traditional score” by Wildhorn.
Bonnie & Clyde debuted on Broadway in December 2011 but failed to impress the critics. Other musical productions are as follows; 2009 La Jolla Playhouse, 2010 Sarasota, 2011 Tokyo, 2013 Seoul, 2014 St. Louis, 2016 Prague, and 2017 Off West End. The musical’s German premiere was staged at the Theater Bielefeld, the Irish premiere produced by University College Dublin, and the Swedish premiere was staged in Eksjö.
Bonnie & Clyde’s principal cast members include Laura Osnes (Bonnie Parker), Stark Sands and Jeremy Jordan (Clyde Barrow), Melissa van der Schyff (Blanche Barrow), Claybourne Elder (Buck Barrow), Michael Lanning (Preacher), Zach Rand (Young Clyde), Kelsey Fowler (Young Bonnie), and Mare Winningham (Emma Parker).
Some of the notable musical numbers included are “Picture Show,” “You’re Goin’ Back to Jail,” “How ‘Bout a Dance?” God’s Arms Are Always Open,” “You Can Do Better Than Him,” “You Love Who You Love,” and “Too Late to Turn Back Now.” The musical earned two Tony Award nominations and four Drama Desk Award nominations in 2012.
