Aspen Santa Fe Ballet (ASFB) is an American contemporary dance company that consists of eleven classically trained dancers. Bebe Schweppe founded the company in 1996 after the invitation sent to the Joffrey dancers Jean-Phillippe Malaty and Tom Mossbrucker (who moved from New York City to embark on a vision of creating a professional dance company based in Aspen).
Aspen Santa Fe Ballet was initially started modestly with six dancers. Its growth was completely organic and launched a tradition of commissioning new work. The company also began co-venturing with a presenting organization in Santa Fe, and now they perform under the name Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. The company made its debut in New York City at The Joyce Theatre in 2003. They have notably performed at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival as well as Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. The Aspen Santa Fe Ballet made its international debut in Canada and France and 2013, ASFB made its debut in Moscow, Russia.
Aspen Santa Fe Ballet also runs a school that includes a professional level ballet preparatory program as well as a critically acclaimed Folklorico program. Students of The School at Aspen Santa Fe Ballet perform in annual spring recitals as well as ASFB’s professional dancers in The Nutcracker. The crew of eleven dancers for the company’s 2017-2018 sessions were Katherine Bolanos, Anna Gerberich, Austin Reynolds, Pete Leo Walker, Sadie Brown, Emily Proctor Franc, Evan Supple, Joseph Watson II, Jenelle Figgins, Seia Rassenti, and Anthony Tiedeman.
