SCCA Racing Information
The Sports Car Club of America's professional racing division is called SCCA Racing. Incorporated in 1963, SCCA Racing is an owned division of SCCA. Since its inception in 1963, SCCA Racing has authorized several championships for GTs, touring cars, formula cars, and rally races. With the U.S.'s disappearance, Formula Race Promotions introduced the F2000 Championship Series in 2006 following the F2000 National Championship. The amateur Formula Continental drivers received more attention in this championship.
As of 2011, the F1600 Championship Series is sanctioned by SCCA Racing. This Formula Ford-based racing category accepts both the Ford Kent and Honda Fit engines.
The Atlantic Championship was reinstated in 2012, and SCCA Racing sanctioned it. It competed in races governed by SCCA Formula Atlantic. This meant that both the more recent Formula Atlantic vehicles utilizing Mazda engines and the older Formula Atlantic cars using Toyota engines could compete in the same class. The course was suspended for the 2013 academic year and resumed in 2014.
The three Formula Race Promotions series will have USAC sanctioning for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. From its debut in 1966 until its initial dissolution in 2006, SCCA Racing sanctioned the Trans-Am Series. For SCCA GT1 vehicles to compete in a national series, it was relaunched in 2009, and SCCA Racing has continued to sanction it.
