Gervonta Davis (November 7, 1994) is an American professional boxer born in Baltimore. Calvin Ford, who inspired the character Dennis "Cutty" Wise in HBO's smash series, The Wire, trains Davis. Davis has a remarkably fruitful amateur career, winning numerous national championships. Between 2006 and 2008, he won three straight National Silver Gloves Championships, two National Junior Olympics gold medals, two National Police Athletic League titles, and two Ringside World Championships. His amateur record of 206–15 ranks him among the greatest.
On February 22, 2013, Davis made his professional boxing debut against Desi Williams, who had an 0-4 professional record, all by knockout. D.C. Armory, Washington, hosted the fight on the undercard of Lamont Peterson vs. Kendall Holt in the IBF junior welterweight division. Davis knocked out his opponent in the first round. A year later, Davis had accumulated eight wins and 0 losses, all of which came within a few hundred yards.
While flying to Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport on August 21, 2021, Davis was on a Gulfstream 4 that experienced an engine failure, resulting in a nosewheel collapse and subsequent skid. Thankfully, he and the rest of the crew were unharmed.
