Claressa Maria Shields (born March 17, 1995) is a mixed martial artist and professional boxer from the U.S. She has won many world titles in five weight divisions, including the indisputable female light middleweight title since March 2021. Following her two Junior Olympic titles, Shields made her open-division tournament debut at the 2011 National Police Athletic League Championships, where she not only won the middleweight title but also the welterweight title.
Shields defeated Marie-Eve Dicaire by a majority decision on March 5, 2021, thus preserving her WBC and WBO super welterweight belts, capturing the IBF 154-pound crown and vacant WBA light middleweight strap. Originally set for a championship unification fight on September 10, 2022, Shields was supposed to meet reigning WBO Middleweight Champion Savannah Marshall.
On July 27, 2024, at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, MI, Shields was set to battle Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse for her WBC heavyweight championship. The fight weighed 175 pounds and included an online vacant WBO light heavyweight championship. Shields dropped Joanisse three times throughout the second round TKO, winning the bout.
