CONCACAF Champions Cup Information
Every year, CONCACAF organizes a continental club football tournament called the CONCACAF Champions Cup, formerly the CONCACAF Champions League. North American, Central American, and Caribbean clubs compete in the event. A team's automatic FIFA Club World Cup qualification is determined by their performance in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Before the 2018 competition, the event used a group stage, but now it employs a knockout system. It is optional for the champion of the CONCACAF Champions Cup to participate in the next season's tournament, unlike in South American and European versions of the same name.
Of the 29 clubs that have won the championship, 14 have done it multiple times. With 38 titles under their belts, Mexican clubs have amassed the most triumphs. Costa Rica's Primera División is the second most successful league in terms of titles won, with a total of six. The most successful club in the competition's history is América, a Mexican team that has won seven trophies.
Saprissa of Costa Rica is the most successful non-Mexican club, with three championships. América, Cruz Azul, Pachuca, and Monterrey are the sole four Mexican teams successfully defending the championship. León won the competition in 2023 after defeating Los Angeles FC in the final. Beginning in 2024, CONCACAF has announced an expansion of the tournament. There are now 27 teams competing in the event, which maintains the all-knockout structure from 2018 but with five rounds instead of two.
