Charles Schwab Challenge Information
Charles Schwab Challenge is an American professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour. It is played annually in Fort Worth, Texas, at Colonial Country Club, in May. It is one of the PGA Tour's five invitational tournaments, with the first one taking place 75 years ago in 1946. The tournament, which began 75 years ago in 1946, pays tribute to golf's past by honoring champions and top committee chairpersons with official Scottish tartan plaid jackets.
Ben Hogan (1912–1997), a long-time Fort Worth resident who won the event five times, the most of any player, is informally affiliated with the tournament. He was one of the greatest golfers of all time, winning nine major championships, with six coming after a near-fatal car accident in 1949 that left him in the hospital for two months.
Starting in 2019, the Charles Schwab Corporation became the event's headline sponsor for four years. Previous sponsors were Southwestern Bell (1989-1994), MasterCard (1996-2002), Bank of America (2003-2006), Crowne Plaza (2007-2015), and Dean & Deluca (2016-2017). The tournament had no title sponsors in 2018 or 1995.
Notable players who have won the Charles Schwab Challenge multiple years include Zach Johnson (2010 and 2012), Phil Michelson (2000 and 2008), Kenny Perry (2003 and 2005), Nick Price (1994 and 2002), and Corey Pavin (1985 and 1986).
