The Chick-A Kickoff Game is a yearly event in Atlanta, Georgia, on the first weekend of the NCAA Division I FBS season. The Peach Bowl is in charge of planning the occasion, which falls over the US holiday weekend of Labor Day. It was hosted at the Georgia Dome from its start in 2008 until 2016. The games were first held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which took over for the Georgia Dome. The series has occasionally featured doubleheaders since 2012.
In the same vein as the Meadowlands Kickoff Classic, played there from 1983 to 2002, and the Disneyland Pigskin Classic in the 1990s, organizers, wanted this event to get national attention. In 2008, ESPN's College Gameday broadcast from Downtown Atlanta, and at Fanzones in Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, large displays from ESPN corporate sponsors and regional Atlanta businesses were on exhibit.
Each team's payout is based on how much money is made over the Kickoff's $5.5 million budget. Alabama and Clemson anticipated receiving more than $2 million in 2008.
