Yunchan Lim Information
Yunchan Lim (March 20, 2004) is a South Korean pianist born in Siheung, Gyeonggi. At the age of nine, he started to give the piano more of his attention. He started studying under his present professor, Minsoo Sohn, at the Korea National University of Arts when he was thirteen. Lim plans to continue his music education with Sohn at Boston's New England Conservatory of Music beginning in the autumn of 2023.
Lim made history in June 2022 when he became the youngest winner of the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas, by winning the Gold Medal. The winner received $100,000 in addition to three years of career coaching. The Best Performance of a New Work and the Audience Award were two additional special accolades he received. The video of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3, which he performed in the final round, has more views than any other version of the work on YouTube.
The Jecheon International Music and Film Festival hosted the world premiere of Crescendo in August 2023. The feature documentary chronicles Lim's prominence as a pianist during the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Decca Classics and Lim inked an exclusive recording deal in October 2023. In the spring of 2024, his debut album will be released on the label.
