Yoasobi Information
Yoasobi is a Japanese pop duo that Sony Music Entertainment Japan established in 2019. Ikura was the duo's stage name, consisting of vocalist Lilas Ikuta and Vocaloid producer Ayase. With the tagline "novel into music" guiding principle, the team first put out music based on chosen short tales published on the label's creative writing platform, Monogatary.
Later on, sources also came from various media, including works of professional literature, letters, plays, novels, and stories. As the Yoasobi duo rose to fame during Japan's pandemic, their debut single "Yoru ni Kakeru'' achieved several firsts: it topped the Japan Year-End Chart and spent six weeks in a row at the top of the Billboard Japan Hot 100; it also became the first Japanese song to receive RIAJ's diamond certification for streaming.
Yoasobi has released a total of six extended plays (EPs): The Book (2021), The Book 2 (2021), and The Book 3 (2023), all of which reached number two on the Oricon Albums Chart; and E-Side (2021) and E-Side 2 (2022), both in English. In 2022, the pair released a short story book called Hajimete No, collaborating with four writers who had won the Naoki Prize: Rio Shimamoto, Mizuki Tsujimura, Miyuki Miyabe, and Eto Mori. The collection included songs that were based on the stories.
Yoasobi has received several honors, including an MTV Video Music Award for Japan four times, five CD Shop Awards, one Crunchyroll Anime Award, one Noma Publishing Culture Award, and five Japan Record Awards.
