WVU World Music Showcase Information
The West Virginia University World Music Showcase is an annual American music festival. It is normally held at West Virginia University's Creative Arts Center's World Music Performance Center. Old Time Band, Bluegrass, African Music, Dance Ensemble, Brazilian Ensemble, and Morning and Afternoon Steel Bands have all performed on the show so far. The Steel Bands would perform various traditional and well-known steel band songs. Trinidad & Tobago produced their instruments.
The WVU Brazilian Ensemble also performs a wide variety of samba arrangements. A WVU African Music and Dance Ensemble plays all of the music arrangements from Guinea and Uganda as part of the WVU program. A world premiere arrangement for cuicas and a Brazilian friction drum are also featured in the show. Appalachian music is usually represented by the Old Time Band and WVU Bluegrass.
