Wood Belly Information
Wood Belly is an American music band. The current lineup consists of Taylor Shuck (bass), Aaron McCloskey (banjo), Chris Zink (dobro), Tom Knowlton (guitar), and Chris Weist (mandolin). A song by Wood Belly has its own lyrical identity and masterful arrangement, based in bluegrass tradition yet being firmly anchored in contemporary creativity.
Wood Belly began performing together in 2015, and the music came together quickly. The band's instrumentation and rhythmic drive resemble a bluegrass tree trunk with branches that freely shoot out in all directions. With inspirations from several genres, there is a strong emphasis on songwriting. Like other Newgrass or Grassicana bands, Wood Belly is based on tradition yet defies categorization.
Wood Belly has been gaining traction since the debut album Solid Ground in 2018. It was followed by a win at the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition, securing the main stage performance slot at the 2019 festival, and a nomination for the 2018 IBMA Momentum Band of the Year.
In January of 2020, Wood Belly published its second album, Man on the Radio, culminating in an incredible period of composition and releases. The new 13-track album was recorded with Grammy-winning producer Sally Van Meter and engineer Aaron Youngberg at Swingfingers Studio in Fort Collins, CO, and features special guest fiddler Jeremy Garrett of The Infamous Stringdusters on many tracks.
