William Black, an electronic musician, and producer, combines heavy progressive sounds with passionate, uplifting dance tunes to explore universal themes like love, addiction, and mental health. His debut album, Pages, was released in 2019; he first started releasing music in 2017 and gained a huge following on streaming services. Black's sophomore album Pieces was released in 2021, following the success of 2020's "Back to U" with Slander.
Black, a native of Orange County, was first exposed to music by his musician father and then, through his sister, was introduced to dance music. Following graduation from high school, he pursued his interest in music production by enrolling in the Icon Collective school in Los Angeles. His early singles "Letting Go" featuring Park Avenue and "I Wish" featuring SKYLR demonstrated his passionate and unique approach to electronic dance music. They quickly gained him a dedicated fan base. Black strengthened his reputation with the 2018 extended play Universe, which featured guest appearances from notable singers such as Nevve and Sara Skinner. Black released his debut studio album, Pages, in 2019 after touring with Illenium and Said the Sky. Micah Martin, RUNN, and Prettyheartbreak were among the album's guests.
Black kicked in the 2020s with one of his biggest successes to date, the 2020 Slander collaboration "Back to U." For the next year, he released a string of songs, including "Deep End," "Remedy," and "Only One I Need" before releasing his second album, Pieces. Pieces, which came out in the latter half of 2021, featured future bass scene heavy hitters, including Nurko, Haliene, and longtime collaborator RUNN.
