Virginia Chamber Orchestra Information
To perform in Virginia regions where live orchestral concerts were unavailable, the Virginia Chamber Orchestra (VCO) was established in 1971 as a touring orchestra. The VCO was encouraged to establish a foothold in Northern Virginia at the beginning of the 1980s, which pleased critics and attracted new audiences.
Emil de Cou, the conductor of the Wolf Trap Festival, was the VCO's music director for four seasons. De Cou enthusiastically suggested that David Grandis, a rising music industry talent, take over as Music Director after him.
