Velvet Crush Information
Velvet Crush is a power-pop band founded in 1989 originating from Providence, Rhode Island. The group's current lineup consists of two members; Paul Chastain (vocalist and bassist) and Ric Menk (drummer). Jeffrey Underhill is a past member of Velvet Crush. In the early and mid-1990s, the group gained prominence in the indie-rock scene. The band broke up in 1996 but later reunited in 1998.
Velvet Crush was initially signed to Bus Stop Records. The band released three singles on this label and a cover version of Teenage Fanclub's "Everything Flows." Creation Records was the second label for Velvet Crush, which was based in the UK. The band's debut album was issued by Creation Records entitled In the Presence of Greatness, in 1991. Some other notable albums by the duo are Heavy Changes (1998), Free Expression (1999), Soft Sounds (2002), and Stereo Blues (2004).
Velvet Crush also released a few live and compilation albums that are Rock Concert (2000), A Single Odessey (2001), Timeless Melodies (2001), and Melody Freaks (demos & outtakes 1990-1996) (2002). A few of the hit singles include "If Not True" (1990), "Walking Out on Love" (1990), "Ash & Earth" (1991), "Window to the World'' (1992), "Drive Me Down" (1992), "Why Not Your Baby" (1995), and "Gentle Breeze" (2000).
