Vadim Gluzman Information
Vadim Gluzman is a classical violinist who was born in the former Soviet Union. This Ukrainian-born Israeli violinist spent most of his childhood in Riga, Latvia. At seven, he started violin studies and studied in Russia and Latvia with Roman Šne and Zakhar Bron. Gluzman’s family moved to Israel in 1990, where he met Isaac Stern and became a student of Yair Kless. After coming to the US, he attended the Juilliard School, where his teachers were Masao Kawasaki and Dorothy DeLay. Gluzman received the Henryk Szeryng Foundation Career Award in 1994.
Vadim Gluzman is well known for playing a 1690 Stradivarius violin called the “Ex-Leopold Auer.” The previous owner of the violin was a Hungarian violinist Leopold Auer. Gluzman has performed with a number of the world’s leading orchestras such as London Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, London Symphony Orchestra, NHK Symphony, Munich Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus, San Francisco Symphony, and Minnesota Orchestra.
Gluzman has also recorded and performed the live works premiers by Lera Auerbach (24 Preludes, recorded on BIS), Giya Kancheli, Peteris Vasks, and Sofia Gubaidulina. He serves as the Principal Guest Artist and Creative Partner for ProMusica Chamber Orchestra based in Columbus, Ohio. Gluzman was awarded the Diapason d’Or in 2011 to record Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 (BIS).
