Utah Symphony Information
Salt Lake City, Utah, is home to the Utah Symphony, an American orchestra. Abravanel Hall is the regular home of the orchestra. The orchestra performs regular subscription concerts in Salt Lake City and tours around Utah and the rest of the Intermountain West. The Utah Opera, accompanied by the orchestra, performs four times a year at the Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake City. The Deer Valley Music Festival in Park City, Utah, is home to the Utah Symphony and Utah Opera every summer.
The Utah State Legislature financially supports the Symphony to provide concerts for schoolchildren. The Utah Valley branch of the Symphony calls the Noorda Center for the Performing Arts home. Following Covington's departure in 2021, Ben Manis was selected to replace him as the orchestra's assistant conductor beginning with the 2022-23 season.
The orchestra first performed under David Robertson's guest conducting in October 2020. In December of 2021, he came back for another guest conducting gig. The orchestra announced Robertson's hiring as its first creative partner in December 2022, with the partnership beginning with the 2023-2024 season and lasting for three years. Orem, Utah's Utah Valley University, has a thriving performing arts program.
