Ty Dolla Sign (April 13, 1982) is an American record producer, singer, and songwriter. He was born in Los Angeles, California. Son of Lakeside bassist and musician Tyrone Griffin. His early exposure to soul artists like Earth, Wind & Fire, and Prince at Lakeside, thanks to his dad, influenced his lifelong appreciation for the genre. As a young man growing up in South Central Los Angeles, Ty Dolla Sign became entangled with gangs.
Starting on bass, Ty Dolla Sign eventually mastered drums, guitars, keyboards, and the MPC. After signing by Venus Brown and Buddah Brown Entertainment, Ty Dolla Sign and his collaborator, Kory, dropped a mixtape named Raw & Bangin Mixtape Vol. 2. They pair appeared as guests on studio albums by musicians, including Sa-Ra Creative Partners and Black Milk. They contributed vocals to tracks like "U" from the latter's 2007 album Popular Demand. However, the partners eventually disagreed about the direction of these businesses.
Once the feud was over, Ty Dolla Sign worked with YG, a rapper from Los Angeles. When YG's single "Toot It and Boot It" became a hit, Ty Dolla Sign was thrust into the spotlight as a co-writer and co-producer. As of that time, he was working with YG as part of Pu$haz Ink. Ty Dolla Sign's debut single was 2011's "All-Star," which featured Joe Moses and was produced by Fuego. "House On The Hill" is Ty Dolla Sign's debut mixtape.
