Mackenzie Scott (January 23, 1991) is an independent American musician, artist, singer, and songwriter born in Orlando, Florida. She performs under the musical pseudonym, Torres. Her music is defined as indie rock, folk, and alternative rock. She grew up in Macon, Georgia, from the age of three, where she learned to play the piano and flute at a young age. Scott used to sing in the children's choir at her Baptist church and soon developed an interest in music through The Phantom of the Opera. She began performing in musicals, learned to play guitar, and started playing and singing hymns for church services.
Scott moved to Nashville, Tennessee, after high school to attend Belmont University and received a degree in songwriting as well as a minor in English literature. She started to record music during this time and graduated in December 2012. Her debut album was self-titled, which Scott recorded over a five-day session at Tony Joe White's home studio in Franklin, Tennessee. The album was released on February 8, 2013, with a second album,Sprinter, being released on May 5, 2015, through Partisan Records.
Some notable studio albums by Scott are Three Futures (2017) and Silver Tongue (2020). Good Scare (2020) and Gracious Day (2020) are two more recent singles. Scott has toured throughout the U.S. and Europe with a variety of famous musicians including Okkervil River, Sharon Van Etten, and Lady Lamb the Beekeeper.
