Toro y Moi is a professional name given to Chaz Bear. His birth name is Chazwick Bradley Bundick (November 7, 1986). Toro y Moi is an American songwriter, singer, graphic designer, and record producer. He gained popularity by the rise of the chillwave movement (2010-2011). His stage name, "Toro y Moi," is a multilingual expression in Spanish and French, meaning "Bull and Me." Some of his other famous names are Chaz Bundick, Sides of Chaz, PLUM, and Les Sins. He is from Columbia, South Carolina.
The music genres followed by Toro y Moi are chillwave, synth-pop, glo-fi, hypnagogic pop, psychedelic rock, and house. The first indie rock band formed by Bundick was in his Ridge View High School and named The Heist and The Accomplice. He is a bachelor’s in graphic designing from the University of South Carolina. His musical career began by meeting up with fellow chillwave artist Ernest Greene.
“Causers of This” was the debut full-length album by Toro y Moi under Carpark Records (2010). “Underneath the Pine” was his second album released on February 22, 2011. He also released an EP entitled “Freaking Out,” featuring a cover of "Saturday Love" (Alexander O'Neal and Cherrelle).
Some of his other studio albums are Anything in Return (2013), What For? (2015), Samantha (2015), Boo Boo (2017), and Outer Peace (2019). “Star Stuff” was a collaborative album with The Mattson 2, a jazz duo (California). He also released mixtapes entitled Boiler Room Los Angeles Mix (2012), Guest Mix for Andrew Meza's BTS Radio (2012), Soul Trash (2019), and a few more.
His several singles appeared in films and other projects such as "Still Sound" appeared in Entourage; Home Sweet Home, "New Beat" in film Magic Mike, "Harm in Change", "So Many Details", and "New Beat" in Grand Theft Auto V, "ABC of Fashion" as soundtrack for British magazine i-D, and a few more.
