Tora Information
TORA is an Australian electronic band. The group's current lineup consists of Jai Piccone, Jo Loewenthal, Shaun Johnston, and Thome Davis. While still in high school, they started an indie-rock group Alice Blu in 2006 with Loewenthal, Tunis, and Johnston. The three individuals departed Shearwater in 2010 to pursue a diploma in contemporary music through the Northern Rivers Conservatorium Arts Center (NRCAC).
While still working a full-time contact center job, Loewenthal started experimenting with electronic music in Melbourne in the middle of 2012. While Johnston was pursuing a Bachelor in Audio Engineering at John Martin Cass Academy, Tunis-Plant was touring Europe and writing new music.
In October 2013, Tora released their self-titled, seven-track debut EP. The band's single, "Calming Her," which was entered in the Triple J Unearthed competition, gained heavy rotation on national radio. Three months after its publication, it had more than 100,000 plays. On New Year's Eve, the band was invited to perform at Falls Festival in Byron Bay for the first time on a significant scale.
The single "These Eyes" by Tora, released in March 2014, earned more than 120,000 plays in the first three weeks with blog support.
