Tomo Nakayama is a Japanese American artist. The Stranger, NPR, and New York Times praised his emotionally compelling, complex, melodic music. He grew up in Seattle, Washington, and was born in Japan. He startled his fans by releasing the synthpop album "Melonday" after previously creating two critically acclaimed indie-folk albums, "Fog on the Lens" and "Pieces of Sky." "Melonday," which was co-produced by Yuuki Matthews (The Shins, Teardrops, Sufjan Stevens) and mastered by Dave Cooley (M83, Paramore, Tame Impala) and debuted at #1 on KEXP's NW Charts, was selected as one of the Top Albums of 2020 by several sources.
On stages across the United States and Japan, Nakayama has performed alongside Cornelius, Wye Oak, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Ben Gibbard, and Shugo Tokumaru. Dave Matthews, Jherek Bischoff, and Jeremy Enigk are also his collaborators (Sunny Day Real Estate). Tomo has curated and produced multiple events for Forterra (Ampersand Live) and Town Hall, where he also served as Artist in Residence and is a long-time part of the Seattle music and arts community. He also composed music and starred alongside Elliot Page and Rosemarie DeWitt in the Lynn Shelton film "Touchy Feely."
