Tim Bluhm Information
Tim Bluhm grew up in Southern California and later attended California State University, Chico. Bradley Hall is where he and Greg Loiacono, Isaac Parsons, and Mike Wofchuck formed the original Mother Hips lineup. In 1990, Bluhm and Loiacono joined Ali Weiss to form a trio, Ali and the Cats. The Mother Hips began at the beginning of 1991 and rapidly became Chico's most well-known band. They embarked on a concert and album-releasing tour. Bluhm left Chico in 1996.
In 2003–2004, the Mother Hips released no new music. Five Foot Tuesday was Bluhm's backing band at the time. They were collectively known as the Tim Bluhm Involvement. Bluhm co-founded The High Sierra Singer/Songwriter Workshop with singer/songwriter Steve Poltz from San Diego in 2005. The four-day backcountry trip participants can collaborate with Poltz and Bluhm on songwriting.
Bluhm and the Mother Hips have been hosting a yearly two-day music festival called The Hipnic in Big Sur, California, since 2009. Bluhm has produced records for The Mother Hips, Jackie Greene, Hot Buttered Rum, Dave Brogan, and Little Wings since opening Mission Bells Studio in 2006 with fellow Bay Area musician Jackie Greene and engineer Dave Simon-Baker.
