The Slackers Information
The Slackers is an American ska band that was founded in 1991 in Manhattan, New York. The band’s sound is known to be a mix of jazz, garage rock, dub, soul, reggae, rocksteady, and ska. The group is notable due to their prolific career and touring North America and Europe. The current lineup of the band is Vic Ruggiero (keyboards and vocals), Jay “Agent Jay” Nugent (guitar), Dave Hillyard (saxophone), Glen Pine (trombone and vocals), Marcus Geard (bass), and Ara Babajian (drums). The Slackers have signed record deals with Hell Cat, Moon Ska, and Whatevski Records.
The Slackers’ members are known for playing in other bands as well as working on other projects alongside The Slackers. Their other projects include Reggae Workers, SKAndalous All-Stars, Stubborn All-Stars, The Hall Trees, Da Whole Thing, Crazy Baldhead Sound System, and David Hillyard & The Rocksteady Seven. The band’s leading member Vic Ruggiero has performed as a solo act performing for both reworked The Slackers’ songs as well as the original compositions.
The band has released several notable studio albums so far including Better Late Than Never (1996), Redlight (1997), The Question (1998), Wasted Days (2001), The Slackers and Friends (2002), Close My Eyes (2003), An Afternoon in Dub (2005), Slackness (2005), Peculiar (2006), The Boss Harmony Sessions (2007), Self Medication (2008), The Great Rocksteady Swindle (2010), The Radio (2011), and The Slackers (2016).
