The Producers - Band Information
The Producers is an American band that was founded in 1981 and originated from Atlanta, Georgia. The group’s music is defined as rock and roll, power pop, new wave, and rock. This new-wave and power-pop band was initially founded as a Beatles cover band, formerly named Cartoon. Soon the members planned to change their musical direction and began to perform their material in nightclubs. The band’s current lineup consists of former Whiteface member Kyle Henderson on bass and vocals, Van Temple on guitar and vocals, Bryan Holmes on drums, and Wayne Famous (Wayne McNatt) on keyboards. Tim Smith is also a previous member of the group.
After navigating their new direction and playing in nightclubs scattered across Atlanta, The Producers earned an excellent reputation. They were signed to Columbia Records subsidiary Portrait Records. The band released two albums for their first record label entitled The Producers (1981) and You Make the Heat (1982). The first became a regional favorite in the southeastern United States with some hit songs like “What She Does to Me.” The song made its way onto the national Billboard Magazine singles charts.
In the early 1980s, The Producers toured extensively, opening for Cheap Trick and The Motels. The group also headlined 1982 MTV’s New Year’s Rockin Eve broadcast. Some of the other notable albums released by the band are Run For Your Life 1985, The Producers/You Make The Heat 2000, Coelacanth 2001, and In The Blues 2012.
