The Dollop Information
The Dollop is a podcast that is hosted by an American comedian Dave Anthony along with Gareth Reynolds since 2014. The podcast follows the comedy and history genres. Each of the episodes of The Dollop is 30-90 minutes long and centers around a person or an event from history, which is chosen for its peculiarity of humorousness. Typically, the episodes cover U.S. history, but this is not the case always.
The Dollop initiated as a preparing way for the one-man show by Anthony at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. It was supposed to be a solo project where Anthony will be talking about different subjects loud. But the idea was not very successful, so Anthony decided to focus on history more and invite other comedians as well. Gareth was the very first guest and was chosen to stay as the second permanent guest by Anthony.
The two permanent hosts and guests have recorded several live episodes in various cities of the U.S. along with Canada. The podcast did five tours of Australia, as well. The podcasts did outside the U.S. usually covers the history of those particular areas. The Dollop also includes the presence of additional guests, including Wil Anderson, Patton Oswalt, Georgia Hardstark, Karen Kilgariff, and a few more.
To date, it is estimated that The Dollop has produced more than 400 episodes. The first season of The Dollop: England (& the UK) was announced on August 5, 2019, and the first ten episodes were released on August 15, 2019. The podcast is often pointed for plagiarism, but the host clears the controversies out.
A book was also released entitled “United States of Absurdity: Untold Stories from American History” by Anthony, which was based on stories discussed on the podcast. About twenty-nine stories taken from the podcast had been featured in the book. The book got ranked no.15 on the bestseller list of LA Times.
