The Damned Information
The Damned is an English Punk rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Will Taylor, Monty Oxymoron, Paul Gray, Captain Sensible, and Dave Vanian. The band temporarily disbanded after the critical rejection of their follow-up studio album, Music for Pleasure (1977). Machine Gun Etiquette (1979) resulted from their swift reformation following James' departure. The band's sound evolved into a gothic rock aesthetic throughout four albums released in the 1980s: The Black Album, Strawberries, Phantasmagoria, and Anything.
Captain Sensible left the band in 1984. Hence, he is not on the most recent two albums. James and Sensible reunited in 1988 for a string of reunion shows, one of which was recorded and released as Final Damnation (1989) the following year. Their high-energy punk rock from the '70s and '80s has been credited with helping to pave the way for the development of hardcore punk in both the UK and the US.
In 1991, The Damned reunited for another tour. Not of This Earth, issued in 1995, was Scabies's final album with the band. Their subsequent studio albums, Grave Disorder (2001), So, Who's Paranoid? (2008) and Evil Spirits (2018) all debuted in the top 10 of the United Kingdom's Official Charts. Darkadelic, their most recent album, was released in 2023.
