The Brothers Four Information
The Brothers Four is a folk singing group that originated from Seattle, Washington. The band's current lineup includes Bob Flick, Mike McCoy, Mark Pearson, and Karl Olsen. The group met at the University of Washington. The Brothers Four delivered their first professional performances due to a prank that was played on them in 1958 by a rival fraternity. Even though the group was not allowed at the club, they still sang a few songs and were subsequently hired.
In 1959, The Brothers Four left for San Francisco and met Mort Lewis, Dave Brubeck's manager, who helped them secure a contract with Columbia Records. The single named "Greenfields," released in January of 1960, reached the number 2 spot on the pop charts. The song sold nearly one million copies and was awarded a gold disc by the RIAA. In late 1960, the group released a self-titled debut album made into the top 20.
Some of the other notable singles by The Brothers Four include "My Tani," "The Green Leaves of Summer," "Frogg," "Nobody Knows," "Christmas Bells," "Blue Water Line," "Theme from 'La Fayette' (Slowly Slowly)," "This Train," and "25 Minutes to Go." Their notable studio albums are 1960 Rally' Round!, 1961 The Brothers Four Song Book, 1962 The Brothers Four Greatest Hits, 1964 More Big Folk Hits, 1964 Sing of Our Times, 1966 Merry Christmas, 1996 Greenfields & Other Gold, and 1996 The Tokyo Tapes.
