The Brother Comatose is an American bluegrass band that is based out of San Francisco, California. The current lineup of the group consists of Philip Brezina (violin), Scott Padden (vocals and bass), Greg Fleischut (mandolin), Alex Morrison (vocals, banjo, and guitar), and Ben Morrison (vocals and guitar). Initially, the band started with the two brothers who did arrangements of songs by different bands such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin.
The Brother Comatose has played and headlined numerous bluegrass festivals such as Kate Wolf Music Festival, Outside Lands Music and Arts, Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. They also have led many extended tours with Lake Street Dive, Yonder Mountain String Band, and The Devil Makes Three. The band’s musical style is often described as a high-energy, folk-rock, rowdy, and foot-stompin' string band. According to Acoustic Guitar Magazine, their music is an upbeat brand of Americana with lots of twangs.
The Brother Comatose has released a few albums, including Songs from the Stoop (2010), Respect the Van (2012), City Painted Gold (2016), and Ink, Dust, and Luck (2018). The band’s notable singles are “Don’t Make Me Get Up And Go,” “Sugar Please,” “Enjoy the Silence,” “No Quarter,” and “Too Many Places.”
