Surfer Blood Information
Surfer Blood is an American indie rock band from West Palm Beach, Florida. The band currently consists of four members, including John Paul Pitts (lead guitars/vocals), Lindsey Mills (backing/bass vocals), Mike McCleary (backing/guitars vocals), and Tyler Schwarz (drums). The band released its debut single in 2009, entitled “Swim.” This track received critical acclaim and was also named as the best track on Pitchfork’s 100 Best Songs of 2009. In January 2010, Surfer Blood released its debut album entitled “Astro Coast.”
In 2009, Surfer Blood was considered to be the breakout band of 2009’s CMJ Music Marathon. The group also performed at the ATP music festival in May 2010. They were also chosen by Les Savy Fav to perform at the ATP Nightmare Before Christmas festival. Surfer Blood released an EP entitled “Tarot Classics” under Kanine Records on October 25, 2011. In the same year, the band went on opening the tour for the Pixies during their Doolittle Lost Cities Tour. They appeared on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on January 9, 2012, and performed their famous single “Miranda.”
Surfer Blood got the record deal signed with Warner Bros.Records after they appeared on the show. They released the second album on the label. They went to California on May 12, 2012, to record their second album along with the legendary collection, Gil Norton. A song from the album “Weird Shapes” was released on January 21, 2013. The band’s other notable albums include Pythons (June 11, 2013), 1000 Palms (May 12, 2015), Snowdonia (February 3, 2017), Covers (August 23, 2019), and Carefree Theatre (July 17, 2020).
