Steven Page Information
Steven Jay Page (June 22, 1970) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and musician. He was born in the city of Scarborough in the province of Ontario. Page was enrolled in Scarborough's gifted program at Churchill Heights Public School after missing grade one. Page would try to perform tunes on the piano as a child as his father kept the beat on the drums. Page studied piano for ten years. He was also a member of the Mendelssohn Youth Choir in Toronto.
Page's first major job was to finish writing music for the Stratford Shakespeare Festival's debut performance of Bartholomew Fair: A Comedy in Summer 2009. He went on a tour of music festivals (mainly folk festivals) that summer, accompanied by Kevin Fox on cello. In 2000, he was featured in the song "He's a Really Useful Engine" by Thomas and the Magic Railroad.
Page One, his debut album of original material under his name, was released on October 19, 2010. Page toured the album across Canada and the United States, including a run of dates with the Goo Goo Dolls. Page appeared at the NHL Winter Classic on January 1, 2011, and led the singing of Canada's national song before the game. On August 27, 2011, he sang Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" at Jack Layton's state funeral. Page released a new single comprising two new tracks, "A Different Sort of Solitude" and "Manchild," on January 17, 2012.
