Steven Curtis Chapman Information
Steven Curtis Chapman (November 21, 1962) is an American contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, social activist, author, actor, and record producer. He was born in Paducah, Kentucky. Chapman later moved to Nashville to pursue his career in music after dropping out from Anderson College in Indiana. He briefly attended Belmond University in Nashville and began working in a music show at Opryland USA, while he was dedicating most of his time to songwriting.
Chapman wrote a song in the 1980s entitled “Built to Last.” It was recorded by a prominent gospel group named the Imperials. The success led him to sign a songwriting deal with Sparrow Records. Several of Chapman’s notable songs have been recorded by many artists such as Roger Whittaker, Cathedral Quartet, Glen Campbell, Billy Dean, and Sandi Patty.
Chapman released his debut album entitled “First Hand” in 1987 on Sparrow Records. A song from the album entitled “Weak Days” peaked at number 2 on the Contemporary Christian Music chart. His second album came out in 1988 entitled “Real Life Conversations.” The album earned four more hits for Chapman, including the number one song entitled “His Eyes,” co-written by James Isaac Elliott. In 1989, the song was awarded the “Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year” from the Gospel Music Association.
Champman has released several other hit studio albums, including Deeper Roots: Where the Bluegrass Grows (2019), Worship and Believe (2016), The Glorious Unfolding (2013), Deep Roots (2013), JOY (2012), re:creation (2011), Beauty Will Rise (2009), and This Moment (2007).
