Samuel Stephen “Steve” Forbert (December 13, 1954) is an American pop music singer and songwriter born in Meridian, Mississippi. Forbert fell in love with music during his childhood and started playing air guitar in a pretend band named “The Mosquitoes.” He began writing songs at 17. In 1976, he moved to New York City. In New York City, Forbert experienced the punk rock scene of the 1970s and performed on the street in Greenwich Village to passersby.
Forbert signed his first recording contract with Nemperor in 1978. After signing this deal, he released his debut album entitled “Alive on Arrival” the same year. His next album, “Jackrabbit Slim,” was released in 1979. The album was completely live recorded at Quadraphonic Studio in Nashville, Tennessee. The album reached number 54 in the UK Albums Chart and number 20 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. He also had a cameo appearance in “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper.
Forbert signed his next record deal with Geffen Records and began releasing his hit albums on the label. Since his career started, he has worked with several record labels, including Blue Rose Music, Giant, BMG, Paladin, Rolling Tide, Koch, Valley Entertainment, Silverline, Disky, 429, and Blue Corn. Some of his major studio albums are Early Morning Rain (2020), The Magic Tree (2018), Flying at Night (2016), Compromised (2015), and Over with You (2012).
