The postseason men's basketball tournament for the Southern Conference is called the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Tournament (SoCon). All tournament games are typically held in Asheville, North Carolina's Harrah's Cherokee Center. The conference's automatic bid to the Division I men's basketball tournament goes to the winner.

David Jean-buzzer-beating Baptiste's three-pointer gave Chattanooga a 64-63 victory over Furman in overtime in the 2022 championship game. Since 2016, Chattanooga has yet to win the SoCon men's basketball championship. The conference tournament was open to all ten participating Southern Conference clubs. With a tiebreaker procedure to seed teams with equal conference records, clubs were seeded according to the record inside the conference.

Head-to-head results, record comparisons versus specific conference opponents, starting with the top-ranked team and going down, and the first publication of the NCAA NET rankings following the regular season are used as tiebreakers. Due to Samford's superior record against conference top seed Chattanooga, it was seeded above Wofford. VMI received a higher seed than UNC Greensboro because of its superior record against Mercer. First-round byes were given to the top six teams.
