Westerners are known for their unbridled enthusiasm and independent nature. Few people in Smoakland better represent that attitude than Anthony Battaglia and Harrison Hays. The dubstep group first connected as Bay Area natives competing in athletics at Boise State University.
Both went their separate ways after finishing school, but destiny brought them back together to find their musical renaissance. Anthony and Harry became an effective tandem rapidly thanks to Anthony's early production knowledge and Harry's DJ expertise. The two friends formed Smoakland in 2018 to celebrate their shared passion for cannabis and dubstep in the Bay Area.
They've been making music for over seven years and want to develop their "Old School" Dubstep nostalgia style. To date, that has manifested in a distinctive sound design, full bass, and bouncy tunes. Their influences originate from various similar artists working today, including Zeds Dead, Eptic, and Mersiv.
While the pair has received undeniable praise and attention, their outlook best foreshadows the epic nature of their music and journey. In 2021, Smoakland plans to release a plethora of new music, work with other artists, and bring back the natural energy that made dance music so popular.
