Slenderbodies are an indie electronic duo that combines smooth sounds and dreamy guitar work with soft R&B vocals, almost always performed in a falsetto register. Slenderbodies, a band from Los Angeles, made their debut in 2016 with the release of the EP sotto voce, whose title comes from an Italian phrase that means "soft voice" but conveys the idea of emphasis.
The album was recorded in a remote studio with guitarist Benji Cormack in Santa Cruz and singer/guitarist Max Vehuni in Los Angeles. The two had met in college a few years before. They immediately became a hit on Spotify, amassing millions of streams without the aid of a record company or radio play. The following year, they released another EP titled fabulist, propelling their popularity to new heights because of the success of their lead single, "anemone," which has had over 30 million plays across all platforms.
More EPs by Vehuni and Cormack followed in 2018 and 2019, each receiving rave reviews on both sides of the Atlantic and helping the duo gain coveted slots at major music festivals like Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza. Their music has been commended for its ability to "conjure an immersive environment" by The Line of Best Fit.
