Shannon Lay Information
Shannon Lay (1991) is an American punk and folk musician. She was raised in Redondo Beach, California. At seventeen, she moved from Redondo Beach to Los Angeles. She started as the band's lead guitarist for Facts on File before switching to Raw Geronimo and eventually Feels. After bringing Lay on board, Feels released two albums in 2016 and 2017, titled Feels (2016) and Post Earth (2019). It was in January 2020 that Lay departed from Feels. She also plays in Ty Segall's band, the Freedom Band.
Holy Heartache (2015), Lay's first album, is a compilation of sixteen home demos. It wasn't until 2016 when All This Life Going Down was made public. Mare Records, an offshoot of Woodsist Kevin Morby established to distribute Living Water, came out in 2017. Three songs from Living Water, two from All This Life Going Down, and two brand new songs were published by Lay in a live session recorded for Audiotree in 2018.
2019 saw the release of Lay's debut album for Sub Pop, August, her first since she left her day job to pursue music full-time. Produced by Lay and Ty Segall, it incorporates more instruments than her previous records. With the help of the Sub Pop Singles Club, Lay dropped the singles "Blue" and "We Mend" throughout December 2019. To raise money for the Black Visions Collective, Lay and Steve Gunn covered Blaze Foley's "Clay Pigeons" in June 2020.
