Surayyo's mother, Surayyo Qosimova, and her sister, Farzonai Khurshed, are well-known singers in their own country. Therefore, music was always a big part of Surayyo's life. In 2006, she had a number-one hit in her home nation.
She has found success in Afghanistan thanks to her collaborations with other Afghan musicians and her renditions of their songs, often performed in duets with the original artists or with their blessing. Shabnam teamed up on a track titled "Ey Khuda" with Afghan vocalist Jawid Sharif.
Along with well-known Tajik artists like Suhrobi Safarzod and Parvina Shukrulloeva, she has also collaborated with other artists to create duets. In 2006, she performed in Tajikistan in a performance featuring Leila Forouhar.
