Seattle Symphony Information
Washington is home to the American symphony orchestra known as the Seattle Symphony. Benaroya Hall has been the home of the orchestra since 1998. The Seattle Opera also uses this orchestra as their accompanying ensemble. On December 29, 1903, the orchestra made its debut performance under Harry West's direction. Originally established as the Seattle Symphony, the orchestra changed its name to the Seattle Philharmonic in 1911.
The orchestra revealed that Morlot will be leaving his position as music director at the 2018–2019 season's conclusion in April 2017. In 2013, the orchestra was guest-conducted for the first time by Thomas Dausgaard. Dausgaard was appointed principal guest conductor of the orchestra in October 2013. His tenure started with the 2014–2015 season and lasted for a total of three years.
A contract extension for Dausgaard's services as principal guest conductor was announced in March 2016 and continued through the 2019-2020 season. With an initial contract of four seasons, Dausgaard took over as music director of the orchestra beginning with the 2019–2020 season, as announced in October 2017. With immediate effect, Dausgaard resigned as music director via email on January 7, 2022.
