Seamus Egan Information
Seamus Egan (July 1, 1969) is an Irish-American musician. He was born in Hatboro, Pennsylvania. Martin Donaghue was his accordion teacher for him. When James Galway and Matt Molloy appeared on television, he made the impulsive decision to learn the Irish flute. By the time he was 14 years old, Seamus had won the all-Ireland championship on four different instruments.
Seamus joined Green Fields of America when it was created by Mick Moloney in 1977 and studied the banjo with him. He returned to Ireland two years later and won the banjo and mandolin All-Ireland championship. He produced a solo album called Traditional Music Of Ireland in 1985.
He joined Susan McKeown's band, The Chanting House, in 1992, and the two collaborated on a live CD. The band also included Eileen Ivers. He started the band Solas in 1994 and has appeared on all of their albums. He produced the soundtrack for Edward Burns' eccentric low-budget movie The Brothers McMullen in 1995. Along with Sarah McLachlan and Dave Merenda, he co-wrote the popular song "I Will Remember You."
Egan has served as a producer for various musicians, including American singer-songwriter Antje Duvekot, fiddler Liz Carroll, and singer Karan Casey.
