Rickie Lee Skaggs (July 18, 1954) is professionally known as Ricky Skaggs. He is an American country and bluegrass singer, producer, composer, and musician. Primarily, Ricky Skaggs plays mandolin, but no, he also plays fiddle, guitar, banjo, and mandocaster. His music genres are generally described as bluegrass, neotraditionalist country, gospel, and folk. Skaggs started playing music at the age of 5 when his father gave him a mandolin. At the age of 6, he sang on the stage with Bill Monroe, and a year later, he appeared on television's Martha White country music variety show.
The official country career by Skaggs was initiated in 1980. In 1981, he debuted on Epic Records. The discography was entitled Waitin for the Sun to Shine, which brought him to both pop and country charts. The album also produced two number one hits. Highways & Heartaches was another release in 1982, which was his only platinum-certified album. This album featured instrumental heavy Highway 40 Blues.
Some of his other albums include That's It!, Sweet Temptation, Waitin' for the Sun to Shine, Family & Friends, Highways & Heartaches, Don't Cheat in Our Hometown, Love's Gonna Get Ya!, Kentucky Thunder, and the list goes on. A few of his collaborative albums are Second Generation Bluegrass, That Down Home Feeling, One Way Track, Ancient Tones, Ricky Skaggs, and Friends Sing the Songs of Bill Monroe, The Three Pickers, and a few more.
He also released several hit singles, among which a few ones are "Don't Get Above Your Raisin'," "Crying My Heart Out Over You," "I Wouldn't Change You If I Could," "You Make Me Feel Like a Man," and many others.
