Philippe Pagès (December 28, 1953), French pianist Richard Clayderman, was born in Paris. His discography features a huge range of musical styles and subjects, including original compositions by Paul de Senneville, Olivier Toussaint, and Marc Minier, as well as instrumental covers of popular songs, reworkings of film scores, ethnic music, and accessible classical music arrangements.
French record producer Olivier Toussaint and his business partner Paul de Senneville asked him to record a piano ballad in 1976. Adeline de Senneville wrote this poem in honor of his newborn daughter.
After his true name, Pagès was mispronounced outside of France, he changed it to Richard Clayderman, his great-grandmother's maiden name. The record became a smashing success, selling 22 million copies in 38 countries. This masterpiece was titled A Ballet for Adeline.
With a repertoire that blends his signature originals with pop standards and classics, layderman has recorded over 1,300 tunes and established a new romantic style.
As of 2006, his records had been certified 70 times platinum and 267 times gold. His record sales are about 70 million. He is known as "the most successful pianist in the world" and has a large Asian fan base.
