Moriah Rose Pereira (January 1, 1995) is an American musician, singer, YouTuber, and songwriter. She is professionally by her stage name, Poppy. She rose to prominence in 2014 after appearing in a series of performance art films as an uncanny valley-like robotic being that mocked and satirized internet culture and modern society. In 2015, she got a recording contract with Island Records, and her debut EP Bubblebath was released in 2016.
Poppy secured a deal with Mad Decent in 2017 and released Poppy, Computer, her debut studio album, which featured art-pop and bubblegum pop tracks. She went on the Poppy Computer Tour to promote the record.
On YouTube Premium in 2018, she debuted the pilot for the projected surreal comedy online series “I’m Poppy.” Am I a Girl?, her second studio album was also released. The second half of Am I a Girl? is a complete departure from her earlier work and began to take on a strong nu-metal vibe. Poppy signed with Sumerian Records in 2020 and released I Disagree, her third studio album, which incorporated heavy metal and industrial rock. I Disagree continued the shift in her music videos that began with her second album, with graphics that some critics regarded as “increasingly frightening,” “violent,” and “macabre.”
Poppy’s song “Bloodmoney” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2021, making her the first and only female artist to earn a nod in this category.
