The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's leading orchestra. It has been the top one in the city since it first emerged in 1895. The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra stages a run of pop and classical performances yearly. The orchestra also organizes educational and community programs at its home, Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts, in the downtown Cultural District.
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has traveled the globe over decades, performing in South America, Asia, and Europe. Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony finished an incredible European journey in May 2010. Along with concerts in Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, France, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovenia, the 12-concert BNY Mellon 2010 European Tour included performances at Vienna's renowned Musikverein.
Beginning with the 2010–11 season, the Pittsburgh Symphony and Honeck announced in September 2010 the four-year Victor de Sabata Guest Conductor Chair for conductor Gianandrea Noseda. Returning to Europe in August and September 2013, Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra went on a European Festivals tour comprising Grafenegg, Lucerne, Beethovenfest in Bonn, and numerous more events.
