Phantom Planet Information
Phantom Planet is a Los Angeles-based American rock band that was created in 1994. The current lineup of the group consists of Jeff Conrad (drums), Darren Robinson (lead guitar and backing vocals), Sam Farrar (bass and backing vocals, occasional guitar and keyboards), and Alex Greenwald (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards, and occasional bass). The band's song "California," which became the theme song for The O.C., is their most well-known work.
Phantom Planet frequently performed in and around the Hollywood region while still in their teens, eventually gaining the attention of Geffen Records executives. Phantom Planet joined Geffen in 1997 and released their first album, Phantom Planet Is Missing, in 1998.
The Guest was released in 2002 and included a healthy blend of bouncy vocals, excellent melodies, and sing-along choruses, cementing Phantom Planet's reputation as a formidable indie band. The band's third album, eponymous, was released in 2004 and signaled a shift in the band's sound. The band abandoned their radio-friendly pop-rock sound in favor of a garage rock sound.
Phantom Planet announced on their Myspace website on January 20, 2008, that the album would be completed by January 24 and that the official release date would be April 15, 2008. Fueled By Ramen has re-released a teaser trailer, revealing that the album's first single would be a remake of "Do the Panic." Devastator, the band's fifth studio album, was released on June 18, 2020.
Phantom Planet has been featured in a few films as well, including Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1998), American Dreams (2004), and Bad News Bears (2005).
