Paul Anka Information
Paul Anka (July 30, 1941) is a Canadian and American actor, singer, and songwriter born in Ottawa, Ontario. Anka studied music theory with Frederick Karam, who sang in the St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral choir, and had piano lessons from Winifred Rees. He attended a High School where the Bobby Soxers were a popular singing group. Young Paul Anka made his recording debut with the tune "I Confess" when he was only 14.
Featuring Italian lyricists Adriano Celentano and Celentano-Mogol and guitarist Alex Britti, he recorded a new cover of "Diana" in 2006. Ultimately, the song reached three on the charts. In 2019, Anka performed four times in Israel despite calls for him to stop. In 1970, Anka performed "My Way" with Morecambe and Wise on their show. After the previously lost cassette recording of the show was discovered in 2021, BBC2 aired it again on Christmas Day.
In 1975, Paul Anka was recognized as the best composer in Canada with a Juno Award. There have been numerous further Juno Award nominations for him. In 1980, he was honored with a spot in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. In October 2004, Anka was invested as an Officer of the Order of Canada. Canada's Walk of Fame officially welcomed Anka in 2005. In 2008, Anka became a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
