Orianthi Information
Orianthi Penny Panagaris (January 22, 1985) is an Australian singer, songwriter, and guitarist. She was born in Adelaide, Australia. She started on the piano when she was three, and by the time she was six, her dad had persuaded her to try out the acoustic guitar. At eleven, she dropped out of Mercedes College to attend Cabra Dominican College because she wanted to focus on learning electric guitar. She was also a student at St. Peter's Collegiate Girls' School for a brief time.
She started her successful career as a songwriter when she was just 15 years old. She joined her first band when she was 14 and opened for Steve Vai when she was 15. At the age of 18, Orianthi jammed with Carlos Santana. At his Adelaide concert on March 30, 2003, he requested Orianthi to join him on stage for a jam session after inviting her to join him for soundcheck.
In 2005, Orianthi self-released her first studio album under her name. The album was titled Violet Journey, featuring original compositions and performances from Orianthi on guitar, vocals, and drums. She used her at-home studio to produce and mix the finished output. Paul Reed Smith became an advocate for Orianthi when Carlos Santana brought her to his attention. Orianthi moved to the L.A. area, signed a management contract with 19 Entertainment, and recorded a new album with Geffen Records in late 2006.
