Moses Sumney Information
Moses Sumney (May 19, 1992) is a Ghanaian-American singer and songwriter. He was born in California and moved to Ghana along with his family when he was 10. His family returned to Southern California when Sumney reached the age of 16. Instead of learning to play any instruments, Sumney kept writing Cappella music for many years until older. He did not perform any of his musical compositions before the public before reaching the age of 20. In 2010, Sumney moved to Los Angeles after completing high school and attended the University of California, Los Angeles.
Sumney started catching the eyes of different record labels in 2014 after he broke into the Los Angeles music scene. The same year, he also worked on his debut project entitled Mid-City Island, a five-song EP. The album was self-recorded. Sumney has performed with many notable artists, including Local Natives, St. Vincent, and Dirty Projectors.
On September 22, 2017, Sumney released his debut full-length album entitled, Aromanticism. The album was released through the record label Jagjaguwar. The album received positive acclaim from The New York Times, The Guardian, and Rolling Stone. On May 15, 2020, he released another album entitled, Græ.
Other EPs released by Sumney are Lamentations (2016), Make Out in My Car: Chameleon Suite (2018), and Black in Deep Red (2018). His notable singles include “Man on the Moon,” “Seeds / Pleas,” “Worth It,” “Lonely World,” “Rank & File,” “Me in 20 Years”, “Cut Me,” “Bless Me,” and “The Other Lover.”
