Morningsiders Information
Morningsiders is an American alt-folk group. The current lineup consists of Magnus Ferguson (lead vocals and guitar), Reid Jenkins (fiddle and vocals), Cody Gibson (bass and vocals), and David Su (drums and vocals). Magnus and Reid founded the band while sophomores at Columbia University in New York City in 2012. Morningsiders played with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis at Columbia's 2013 spring performance, and their debut live music video, "Empress," rapidly went popular around campus.
Morningsiders released their first two songs, "Empress" (studio version) and "Welcome Rain," in May 2014. The first was featured in a Starbucks Mother's Day commercial with Oprah Winfrey's voice-over. 'unfocus,' their debut album, was released in February 2015 and features an impressionistic Americana sound influenced by their acoustic inclinations. The trio uses lush harmonies, folk instrumentation, and unorthodox percussion to create an intimate listening area focusing on story-telling. "Empress" was included in the pilot episode of Amy Poehler's Hulu comedy "Difficult People" in the summer of 2015, propelling the song to #1 and #2 on the U.S. and Global Spotify Viral Charts, respectively.
